Smithsonian: Sevierville is 1 of best small towns to visit

The Smithsonian Magazine just named Sevierville to its list of "The 20 Best Small Towns to Visit in 2015."

New Publix to open in Pigeon Forge

Another Publix will open soon in East Tennessee. The grocery store chain plans to open a 45,600 square-foot location in Pigeon Forge.

The new location will be an anchor store in the Valley Forge Shopping Center at the intersection of Wears Valley Road and the Parkway.

According to the developers, Publix is slated to open in early 2016.

Major traffic shift coming to Hwy. 66 at Sevier Co. exit

Drivers should be aware of a big traffic change at the Sevier County exit in the coming weeks.

TDOT crews will be working on the Highway 66 bridge over I-40 at exit 407, and that will require them shifting drivers who are trying to access the interstate.

Pair wanted for kidnapping man to extort money

Sevierville Police are looking for a man and woman who they believe kidnapped another man for money.

There are warrants out for the arrests of Amanda Lynn Wells, 28, of Sevier County, and Lawrence H. Bond, 53, of Morristown. Both are charged with aggravated robbery and especially aggravated kidnapping. Bond faces an additional charge of aggravated sexual battery.

GSMNP seeking volunteers to help clean up Alum Cave Trail

(WBIR) The Great Smoky Mountains National Park is looking for volunteers to assist crews on fixing up Alum Cave Trail.

The trail is south of Gatlinburg near the North Carolina state line. Volunteers are needed every Wednesday starting May 20 through October 28.

The work shift runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., but shorter shifts could be available upon request.

Rally for murdered Sevier County woman cancelled

Update 10:28 am:

The family of a Sevier County woman murdered in 2009 told WBIR on Wednesday that they've cancelled a rally scheduled for that day outside the Sevier County Courthouse.

The family hasn't decided whether to reschedule the rally.
