As hotel room demand grows in Sevier County, a group of residents has a growing demand for a popular retailer to move to Sevierville.

If you've driven along Highway 66 recently, you may have seen a billboard promoting wewanttarget.com.

More than 1,300 people have signed an online petition asking for Target to come to Sevierville, so we wanted to know who's behind the sign and website.

We found out the domain name is registered to Tommy Stokes of Tommy Stokes Design. When we contacted him, he said he did not want to comment on the website or the billboard.

According to his professional website, Tommy Stokes Design has worked on websites for companies like First Commercial Real Estate, the primary developer of Turkey Creek.

The Sevier County Economic Development Council wasn't behind the effort, but is impressed with the ambition.

We also reached out to Target's headquarters. The company says it is in no way connect to the billboard or website.

A Target spokeswoman says they appreciate the enthusiasm, but they do not have any information to share at this time about locating in Sevierville.

If you have any information about this effort, we want to hear from you. Email us at news@wbir.com.
