Wonders of Flight sets sail Friday

Sevier County's newest tourist attraction gives visitors a new way to view the Smokies. Wonders of Flight opens to the public Friday.

The tethered helium balloon attraction was originally supposed to open this summer, but as we reported in June, a world-wide helium shortage delayed the grand opening.

The balloon will float people 400 feet in the air for an elevated view of the Great Smoky Mountains.

"With this balloon, you can fly up to 30 passengers every time, and the duration of the flight is 10 minutes. So we fly like 1,000 to 1,500 people per day to discover the beauty of the nature of Tennessee," said Jerome Giacomoni, president of AeroFlight.

Wonders of Flight is located next to Wonder Works along the Parkway in Pigeon Forge.
