Man convicted of aggravated kidnapping girlfriend in Sevier Co.

A Sevier County jury has convicted a man of kidnapping, strangling, and raping his girlfriend.

The jury convicted Ernest Pyle of two counts of especially aggravated kidnapping and one count of resisting arrest. Officials say Pyle held his girlfriend against her will at a Pigeon Forge hotel for five days where he brutally raped and threatened to kill her.

Pyle will be sentenced in January. He faces 25 years in prison for kidnapping charges, and an additional 11 months for resisting arrest.

Sevierville Police are hoping the public can help them identify a man wanted for spending more than $1,200 of other people's money.

According to SPD, the man used three debit cards belonging to three people who had accounts at the Alcoa 10 Federal Credit Union on October 10.  He spent $1,240 at the Sevierville Wal-Mart and K-Mart.  It's not known how the man got the debit cards, because detectives say the victims still had their cards.  They became aware of the thefts the day after, when the credit union contacted them.

Sevier County officials are investigating a break-in at a Sevierville home Tuesday night.

The family who lives in the home says the stolen items were irreplaceable family heirlooms.

Sue Schuler never expected her home would be targeted.

"It's a very quiet neighborhood, very good people live around here."

Her oldest son was the first to arrive home Tuesday evening, and found the back door kicked in and the pets running loose.

Driver of SUV that hit church van in jail on unrelated charges

The driver of an SUV that collided with a church van last month, killing two people and injuring ten others, is out of the hospital and in jail, though not on charges related to the crash.

According to Sevier County Sheriff on Seals, Tyler James Schaeffer was arrested on burglary charges after his release from UT Medical Center.  Seals said he believed that Schaeffer was also in violation of probation from other counties.

A teenage boy has been charged with aggravated animal cruelty for shooting a dog with a bow and arrow.  The dog had to be euthanized.

Investigators with the Sevier County Sheriff's Office say the 14-year-old turned himself in.

Allie, a 6-year-old golden retriever mix, was found with the arrow through her body last week in Seymour.  She was taken to a vet, but they were not able to save her.  Her family was located a few days later, and were devastated at what happened to her.

A Sevier County man is now facing vehicular homicide charges after a fatal crash this past weekend.

William Heine was behind the wheel Saturday when he hit a telephone pole on Porterfield Gap Road.

He admitted to drinking 5 or 6 mixed drinks before the crash happened.

According to THP, the passenger in the truck, 28-year-old Kristi Creel, was not wearing a seatbelt, and died.

Reward increased for information in Gatlinburg murder case

The state is hoping a bigger reward will lead to an arrest in the murder of a Gatlinburg business woman.

More than three years ago, Shannon Hercutt was discovered at the bottom of a steep hill inside her SUV. Investigators first thought it was an accident, but an autopsy revealed she had been beaten in the head.

According to Hercutt's family, the state is now adding $10,000 to the reward in the case, bringing the total to $35,000.
