Sevier County family loses heirlooms during break-in

Sevier County officials are investigating a break-in at a Sevierville home Tuesday night.

The family who lives in the home says the stolen items were irreplaceable family heirlooms.

Sue Schuler never expected her home would be targeted.

"It's a very quiet neighborhood, very good people live around here."

Her oldest son was the first to arrive home Tuesday evening, and found the back door kicked in and the pets running loose.

"There [are] 14 guns missing," she said, listing the numerous items stolen. "Rifles, pistols, my wedding band, my husband's wedding band, my diamond."

Schuler says the thief also took an Xbox gaming system, a camcorder, several tools, her grandmother's brooch and an Air Force coin. However, the jewelry and weapons carry a much higher sentimental value, because they belonged to her late husband, Scott.

She planned to one day give them to her five children.

"I can't ever again give them a gun they shot with their daddy. I can't give my daughter a necklace her daddy gave me," she said.

Scott Schuler passed away after losing his battle with cancer last year.

"What hurts the most to me is, my children don't have a tangible memory anymore, because they could touch those guns... and it would be a memory of 'Dad,' something of 'Dad.' They took everything," she said.
