Just in time for the Thanksgiving crowds, Ober Gatlinburg opened up their snow tubing track Friday.

This weekend is the earliest the resort has ever been able to accumulate enough snow for tubers.

"We're one of the first tubing operations to open in the United States," said John Cossaboom, Director of Winter Sports for Ober Gatlinburg.

Ober has invested in new technology called Snow Magic that allows them to make snow even when it's warm. They have been making the ice chips that give the appearance of snow since September.

"We've got two, 50,000 pound machines that will produce ice for us continuously up to temperatures of 70 degrees," said Cossaboom

"We don't see snow in Florida and we didn't expect it at all in November. We're glad to see it," said Thomas Mayerlen, a visitor from Jacksonville, FL.

With the extra weeks tacked on, Ober expects a boost in business.

Ober also plans to use Snow Magic in the spring, allowing them to stay open through Easter.

You can purchase a $25 ticket and ride for an hour and a half.

"It was so much fun and fast. It was great to compete with all my brothers and dad," said Garland Mayerlen, Thomas' daughter.

If you're more of the skiing type, Ober expects to open the slopes to skiers and snow boarders on December 7th.
