Project ADAM donates defibrillator to Northview Academy

A soon-to-be opened East Tennessee school will now be better prepared to handle medical emergencies, thanks to a local health group.

Project ADAM today donated an AED defibrillator to Northview Academy. The organization educates and helps schools handle sudden cardiac arrests.

Monday's donation was in honor of one of the district's substitutes, Chasity Roberts, who recently was saved after having a heart attack while on vacation.

"They got to her in a minute, 20 seconds. They had to shock her with the AED back to life and give her mouth to mouth. And like I said they got to her in a minute, 20 seconds. If they would not have done that she would not have been here right now," said Kim Roberts, Chasity's mother.

Thanks to the donation, when Northview Academy opens it will now have two AEDs.

The Project ADAM executive director says having more than one at the school will ensure a defibrillator could reach someone within the ideal time window of three minutes.
