Sevier County deputies round up drug arrests

Sevier County authorities arrested twenty-five people Tuesday morning, charging each of them for drug distribution-related crimes.

The move comes after roughly six months of undercover work that led to a series of grand jury indictments.

The Sevier County Sheriff's Office does a drug roundup two to three times a year in an effort to clean the streets from prescription narcotics sales, officials said.

The task force nabbed 36 people for selling drugs, including prescription pills, methamphetamine and heroine.

"Most of the time when we hit them this early, we get them while they are still in bed before they come to their senses. We surprise them more or less," said SCSO Deputy Supervisor Anthony Moore.

Multiple agencies sent 25 officers throughout the county to help with the busts.

"We are not going to stop. We have a narcotics unit. The day the grand jury meets they will go out and buy drugs again. So it never stops," said Captain Jeff McCarter with the sheriff's office.

Moore added that sometimes families also help play a role, locating suspects.

Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg, and Sevierville police departments, and the U.S. Marshal assisted in the roundup, which took a couple of hours to complete. The suspects' average bail was about $20,000.
