News

(WBIR - Sevier County) The Sevier County Sheriff's Office Thursday charged Knoxville resident, 34-year-old William Shane Cox, with attempted first-degree murder after they say opened fire during a break-in.

The Sheriff's Office says a man, later identified as Cox, broke into a residence at the Deerfield Mobile Home Park in Sevier County armed with a gun and pepper spray. SCSO said Cox went into the bedroom and pepper-sprayed two victims. One of the victims, a man, tried to take down Cox, and during the fight, deputies said Cox began firing.

The male victim was able to escape out a window, get to a neighbor's house and call authorities.

By the time deputies got to the scene, Cox had gotten away. After an investigation, authorities eventually arrested Cox at his home in East Knoxville.

Cox has been charged attempted first-degree murder and especially aggravated burglary. He is in the Sevier County Jail on a $250,000 bond.
