Major traffic shift coming to Hwy. 66 at Sevier Co. exit
News

Drivers should be aware of a big traffic change at the Sevier County exit in the coming weeks.

TDOT crews will be working on the Highway 66 bridge over I-40 at exit 407, and that will require them shifting drivers who are trying to access the interstate.

Starting at approximately 10:00 pm on Sunday, April 19, and lasting about a week, all traffic will be shifted to the northbound bridge. Depending on weather and progress, traffic will return to normal around April 23 for a week, then on Sunday, May 3, all traffic will switch to the southbound bridge. There will be 2 lanes of traffic in the northbound direction and 1 lane for southbound traffic as motorist drive over the bridges.

The left lane in the northbound direction of Hwy. 66 will remain open to the crossover to allow access to West Dumplin Creek Road. Beyond this, the lane will be closed and traffic will merge to the right.

Going north, the right lane will remain open for traffic heading Eastbound toward Asheville/I-81. The I-40 Westbound on ramp (the loop ramp) will also remain open to traffic.

TDOT will put up signs to help drivers get around the construction.
