Sheriff: Man assaulted wife then kidnapped child & grandchild | News
(WBIR-SEVIER COUNTY) A Sevier County man faces mutliple charges after investigators say he assaulted his estranged wife and kidnapped two young family members.
According to a press release from Sheriff Ron Seals, deputies were sent to a home on Rolen Road just after 8 am Friday to answer a domestic abuse call. As the first officer arrived, he had to jump out of the way of a car that came speeding from the driveway.
The deputies then spoke with a woman who said her husband, Gerald C. Radekin Jr, 49, assaulted and threatened to kill her. She currently has an order of protection against him. She says he tried to force her into a car but she got away and ran to a neighbor's hosue to call 911.
Meanwhile, Seals says Radekin went into the home and kidnapped their adopted child and grandchild, ages 3 and 5.
Authorities issued a BOLO (Be on the Lookout) for Radekin and the car he was driving, and within an hour, got information that he was in the Flat Creek Road area. Officers located him, and after a brief chase also involving state troopers, stopped the car and arrested Radekin.
The woman was taken to LeConte Medical Center to be treated for her injuries after the assault. The children were returned to her after she was released from the hospital.
Radekin is charged with Attempted 1st Degree Murder, Aggravated Kidnapping, Especially Aggravated Kidnapping, Violation of a Court Order, Aggravated Assault on an Officer and Evading Arrest. He is being held in the Sevier County Jail with no bond.
