Sheriff: Public helps track down suspected convenience store robber | News
(WBIR-SEVIER COUNTY) A Blount County man is now is behind bars after surveillance pictures of an armed robbery in Seymour was shared on television and social media.
The Sevier County Sheriff's Office says Martel D. Harris, 22, of Seymour, was arrested at his home Tuesday. Investigators received several tips about his identity after the images were made public.
Sheriff Ron Seals would like to thank the public for their assistance in identifying the suspect which led to his quick arrest.
Sevier County Sheriff Ron Seals is asking for the public’s help in identifying a suspect that robbed a convenience store on Monday morning.
At 11:44 a.m., the Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call reporting an armed robbery at the Fastop Market in Seymour.
According to the convenience store clerk, the suspect came into the store and redeemed some lottery tickets. The man returned later in the hour and made an additional purchase. When the clerk opened the cash register, the suspect pulled a gun and grabbed cash from the register. Wjhen he left the store, he drove away in a red compact car.
The suspect was wearing gray and black athletic pants with a blue hoodie. He is believed to be in his early twenties with a slim build and medium height.
